Christening Your Boat

It's Boat Handover Day

You wake up one morning and realize what day it is. Instead of snoozing the alarm, you jump out of bed and make pancakes in record time. Why? It's your boat handover day! The day when your boat is ready for all of your new adventures. So, what should you expect from your first day of boat ownership?

What to Expect During Your Boat Handover

First things first, your itinerary, it’s almost like planning a vacation. We want to make sure everything is in place for you to sail OR motor off in your new boat. Your itinerary is based on your prior knowledge, and your ability to learn. When it’s finally time for you to arrive at our yard with your friends and family, we will be happy to meet you with smiles all around.

Here at Cape Yachts, we recognize the importance of purchasing a new boat. Whether it's in with the new and out with the old, or your very first boat. We want your handover experience to be memorable for years to come. Your boat purchase is not only a milestone for your whole family, but to our staff too. You will get the opportunity to meet the team members who helped bring your boat from dream to reality.

With everyone now acquainted. It’s finally time to christen your new vessel. Your sales professional will have a special speech prepared, which he will present aboard your boat. No christening ceremony would be complete without champagne (I mean come on). We provide a celebratory bottle for you to break over the anchor commencing the ceremony. Not to worry, the champagne is held in a netted bag, so no glass makes its way into the harbor. As your bottle shatters and our cannon roars, your boat is finally ready for her first journey. We give you the cannon shell with the boat name on it, so you are always reminded of this special day. We also aim to capture video and photo footage to create a lasting memory.

After all the fun, we want to make sure everything is exactly what you want. Your sales professional will go over all your added specs from paint to electronics and make sure everything is up to par with your standards. We recognize how large of a milestone and investment you are making, and want to make sure it's as perfect as possible.

Along with making sure you love your boat; we always review the commissioning checklists. One of these lists is in place to make sure all your systems, parts, and superstructure areas are ready to go. Secondly, we want to give you a walkthrough and guide you through all the details of operating your vessel. Every boat is different, and we want to make sure you get to know yours like the back of your hand.

Along with function and operation, you will be educated by your sales professional and a knowledgeable technician on all the maintenance and warranty info for your vessel. Just like a car, boats need regular maintenance and care in order to experience many fun-filled seasons.

We aren't all electronically savvy. Even if you are, your boat navigation system can be a whole new adventure. We have our electronic technician on-hand to lead you through everything. Anything you have questions or concerns about, our tech can answer. Whether it be your generator, shore power or even smart systems.

Learning makes you hungry, or at least to me it does. After your morning of hard work and brain power, we are pleased to offer you lunch, on us. We have so many amazing local restaurants in our village, including a farm fresh market and a restaurant on property in our marina at South Wharf.

Fueled by fresh sandwiches or local seafood, it’s time for the fun part, your sea trial. This is where you take everything you've learned and get to test it out with our help and support. This is a great chance for you to learn your navigation system in real time and see how fast your boat can really go. Depending on how you feel, you can also have one of our electronic techs join you to coach you on your system.

We All Hate Paperwork, But!

Lastly, you fill out paperwork related to your warranty and registration. We will make sure they get to the right place. You always have the option to attend more training days for your boat, or ask every question you have. Our goal for your boat handover is to make it the most comfortable, memorable experience possible.
